Most shocking plastic surgery fails

plastic surgery is one of my “in case of emergency” things, should my features decide to drastically rebel without informing me. For now, makeup and Spanx has me covered. Maybe in 30 years or so I will look into much greater measures to preserve my youth. Plastic surgery has definitely made waves— especially in Hollywood. There’s been some amazing work done on celebs and regular people, and I’ve taken good note of that. However, there’s also been some not-so-amazing work done that has made me more cautious about the idea of plastic surgery, and more aware of the importance of having a good surgeon. I don’t want my face to melt because I went to a fly by night doctor— that’s scary.

Don’t get excited just because a “doctor” is giving you a good deal on a few nips and tucks. If it’s cheaper than the average price and the doctor is running his clinic from a dark back alley in the bad part of town—you better run! These are the people that will most likely sell your organs to the black market if they get the opportunity. Trust me, you don’t want to be known as the person with a melted face and a missing kidney.

Here are some horrific examples of why you should take the time to find a good doctor before going under the knife. I still have a few years to think about any work that I’d like to get done, but that’s only if I fail to age gracefully.

Nikki Cox

ow, this doesn’t look too bad compared to the others on the list. However, if you compare the before and after photos of actress Nikki Cox (best known for her role on “Unhappily Ever After”), you’ll notice a big difference. From looking like a hot supermodel to looking like, well, a mannequin, she definitely chose the wrong doctor to work on her face. This is why getting Botox is a tricky procedure to undergo. It’s a pass or fail kind of thing.

In her after photo, Nikki seems to be having a hard time smiling for the cameras. That’s a clear sign of Botox, because you have no proper control of your facial muscles (they’re just stiff.) The skin on and around Nikki’s lips seem to be getting taut from the fillers. With such unkissable lips, lets hope Nikki still gets her happily ever after

Male Celebs you didn't know had Plastic Surgery

Sylvester Stallone

Stallone is so jacked that most people probably assume he takes steroids, but it turns out that the only thing unnatural about him is his plastic surgery. When you’re a huge action star like Stallone people expect a lot out of you: not only do you need to make sure that your body is chiseled, but you also need to look like you belong on the big screen.

Keeping up with an audience’s expectations of beauty gets a lot more difficult as you get older, so stars like Stallone naturally have to turn to alternative methods.

Sylvester didn’t just have a few surgeries; he went “Rambo” with the procedures: lifting his eyebrows and his face, having work done on his jaw line, and of course getting enough Botox injections to keep his face looking timeless. Stallone certainly knows what he is doing: the older he gets the more “expendable” he becomes as an actor, and the more “rocky” his career gets, but with his dedication (and with a bit of cosmetic help) he’ll be an action hero past the point when he’s wheelchair bound.

A Full Moon Will Shine On Christmas Night: The First In Decades

For the first time in 38 years there will be a full moon shining down on us this Christmas. The previous full moon on Christmas fell on 1977, the year the first Star Wars was released and Jimmy Carter was in the White House. Take the opportunity before opening presents to step outside and appreciate our unique place in the solar system.

You can witness the moon at its peak at 6:11 a.m. EST on Christmas day if you are too excited to sleep. If you miss this one, you’ll have to wait another 19 years until 2034 to witness the next full moon on Christmas. NASA has calculated that a more uncommon occurrence, a Christmas lunar eclipse will next occur on December 25, 2531. However, if you’re not keen on waiting that long, you can view a solar eclipse on Christmas day 2307 instead.

The ‘Full Cold Moon’ presents a perfect opportunity to learn interesting facts about our moon, it’s rotation around Earth, and how it was formed.

The Moon and Earth are in a cosmic dance as they orbit around their common center of mass (barycenter). In this case the barycenter lies about three quarters the distance from the Earth’s center to the surface.

The Moon takes 27.322 days to orbit around the Earth and at a tilt of 5.14 degrees compared to the plane of Earth’s orbit. This rotation of the moon around Earth results in our daily tides as the Moon’s gravitational force acts upon the Earth’s oceans. The Sun and other planets have much less influence on the gravitational forcing upon our oceans and thus tides have a cyclical pattern that matches the Moon’s orbit.

There are a variety of theories that exist to explain the origin of our Moon. One theory is that early on in the formation of Earth a large body collided with Earth, ejecting pieces of Earth into orbit around our planet. Eventually, those pieces coalesced to form the Moon, as we know it. Another theory suggests that the Moon was captured in Earth’s orbit and was formed elsewhere in the solar system. This theory explains several differences seen in the geologic composition of the Earth and Moon. However, at present the impact theory remains the most probable and fits the best with scientist’s data of the Moon.

Unusual 'sail-backed' dinosaur roamed Spain 125 million years ago

Along a lush river delta in what is now northeastern Spain, a herd of dinosaurs munched on ferns and conifers similar to modern-day cypresses 125 million years ago.

These creatures stood out from the others in this Cretaceous Period landscape by virtue of the unusual sail-like structure on their backs, and experts today can only hypothesize about its function.

Scientists announced on Wednesday the discovery near the town of Morella in Spain's Castellón Province of the fossil remains of a medium-sized dinosaur they named Morelladon, a four-legged herbivore that measured 6 meters (20 feet) long.

Protruding from its back was a series of bony spines that formed the sail-like structure that stood about 2 feet (60 cm) tall.

"The sail could help in heat exchange - thermoregulation - focused on releasing excess body heat into the environment, like the ears of the modern-day elephants, or as a storage place for fat to be used during periods of low food supply," said paleontologist Fernando Escaso of the National University of Distance Education's Evolutionary Biology Group in Spain.

The structure also could have served a display role in attracting mates, Escaso added.

Escaso noted that sail-like structures appeared periodically in the evolutionary history of vertebrates, often in animal groups not closely related to one another.

Another plant-eating dinosaur called Ouranosaurus with similarities to Morelladon lived about the same time in Africa. The biggest sail-backed creature was Spinosaurus, which lived a semi-aquatic lifestyle 95 million years ago in Africa. At 50 feet long (15 metres) and 7 tons, it was the biggest dinosaur predator on record, larger even than Tyrannosaurus rex.

Millions of years before the rise of the dinosaurs, there were other sail-backed creatures including the carnivorous reptile Arizonasaurus, the amphibian Platyhystrix and the distant mammal relatives Dimetrodon and Edaphosaurus.

Morelladon is known from a partial skeleton including the spines, other vertebrae, pelvic bones, a thigh bone and teeth.

Northeastern Spain during Morelladon's time alternated between wet and dry periods, with strong temperature variations ranging from 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius) to about 104 F (40 C).

Escaso said the main predator in the area was Baryonyx, a relative of Spinosaurus, and there were other plant-eating dinosaurs around as well as crocodilians and the flying reptiles called pterosaurs.

Driverless Car Rules: Google ‘Gravely Disappointed’ Over California’s Proposed Autonomous Vehicle Regulations

Google expressed disappointment over proposed regulations for driverless cars announced by the California Department of Motor Vehicles Wednesday. The proposed DMV rules will require autonomous cars to be operated by a licensed driver.

Under the new rules, the autonomous vehicles can’t be completely self-driven and will require someone behind the wheels and pedals who can take control of the car if required. The motorists will be responsible for obeying traffic laws, regardless of whether they are at the wheels. Two public hearings on the regulation are being planned by the state’s motor-vehicle department, with the first expected to be held in late January.

"A licensed operator will be required to be present inside the vehicle and be capable of taking control in the event of a technology failure or other emergency," a draft of the recommendations stated.

“The draft regulations establish financial responsibility, vehicle performance, vehicle equipment, and vehicle registration requirements. Consistent with the testing regulations, commercial vehicles are excluded from deployment. Due to the size of these vehicles, DMV believes that public safety is best served by initially limiting deployment to passenger vehicles,” the department said, in the statement.

The proposed regulations would also require consumers to get a special state-issued driver’s certificates after receiving training from a car company on how to use a driverless vehicle. The vehicles also reportedly have to qualify in a test that will be administered by a third party before being sold.

“In developing vehicles that can take anyone from A to B at the push of a button, we’re hoping to transform mobility for millions of people, whether by reducing the 94% of accidents caused by human error or bringing everyday destinations within reach of those who might otherwise be excluded by their inability to drive a car," Google spokesman Johnny Luu, said in an emailed statement to TechCrunch. "Safety is our highest priority and primary motivator as we do this. We’re gravely disappointed that California is already writing a ceiling on the potential for fully self-driving cars to help all of us who live here.”

The proposed regulations were announced following months of study by California’s DMV after the state’s legislature stated that it required the DMV to develop regulations for testing and the deployment of autonomous vehicles.

“Google may be in overdrive in its rush to develop robot cars, but the DMV has admirably served as traffic cop and proposed reasonable limits to protect public safety,” John Simpson, director of consumer watchdog Privacy Project, said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Google’s driverless cars are reportedly part of Alphabet's secretive X division that experiments with new technologies and has reportedly been testing autonomous vehicles in California since 2009.

On Wednesday, Google also said that it will separate its driverless car division, which will operate as a standalone business under Alphabet Inc. -- the parent company of Google. Under Alphabet, the self-driving car service may begin offering rides for hire in major cities such as San Francisco and Austin.

“Our concern is safety,” Brian Soublet, California DMV’s chief legal counsel, said in response to a question about whether the regulations might hurt Alphabet’s efforts. “DMV believes that manufacturers need to obtain more experience in testing driverless vehicles on public roads prior to making this technology available to the general public.”
